RCMP
Saskatoon Area Building
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Electrical Budget: $1 million
_____
About the Project
The new Saskatoon Area Building consolidates RCMP forces in a
new state-of-the-art facility, providing a central facility for
all operations in the Saskatoon area. The building addresses the
specialized accommodation needs of the RCMP. The design of the
facility included a number of sustainable development initiatives
such as energy-efficient lighting, the ability to reclaim exhaust
air for heating, and the use of solar shades on south-facing windows.
These features will reduce energy consumption by 25 percent.
_____
Humboldt Electric's Work
As could be expected with the construction of a police detachment,
there was an extra emphasis on state-of-the-art security and video
surveillance systems throughout the building. The cell block controls
and monitoring equipment were also very high end installations.
The facility made use of energy-efficient lighting, and to add
to the complexity of the project any electrical work done in areas
where people might be detained had to be completely tamper-proof.
_____
Key Challenges
- Meeting advanced energy-efficient specifications
- Ensuring tamper-proof installations where
needed
- Proper installation of state-of-the-art
security and electronics
