Saskatchewan
Legislative Building
Location: Regina, Saskatchewan
Electrical Budget: $1.3 million
_____
About the Project
The Saskatchewan Legislative Building is the centre of government
in Saskatchewan, originally constructed between 1908 and 1912.
The building was designed in the shape of a cross with the top
of the dome rising 53 metres above ground level. The legislature
is recognized as one of the most historic properties in all of
Saskatchewan. In 1997, a restoration of the Legislative Building
was undertaken to address major structural problems and preserve
the building for future generations.
_____
Humboldt Electric's Work
This project presented two major challenges. The first was renovating
and installing electrical systems in a building that is closing
in on being a century old. We had to take great care not to damage
any parts of the structure as we worked. The second challenge
was scheduling our work around the people that had to keep using
the building. The legislature had to remain open during the project.
We also changed the power distribution system, and we installed
a new high tech fire alarm system throughout the entire building.
_____
Key Challenges
- Installing electrical systems without damaging
the old building
- Scheduling work to keep the legislature
open and running
- Proper installation of high tech fire alarm
system
