Government
House Centennial Project
Location: Regina, Saskatchewan
Electrical Budget: $544,000
_____
About the Project
Government House Heritage Property, built in 1891, accommodates
the Office of the Queen's representative in Saskatchewan, the
Lieutenant Governor, and serves as a museum and government hospitality
facility. Today, the building is a place of learning, welcoming
about 25,000 visitors each year. The Centennial Project adds a
new wing to Government House, and improves all aspects of the
building.
_____
Humboldt Electric's Work
This addition to Government House included a new wing, which had
to be built to match the old building. We handled all the electrical
work on the project, including new offices for the Lieutenant
Governor, the ballroom, and more. This project had grand lighting,
to say the least, featuring a beautiful chandelier in the ballroom.
The ceilings through much of the structure are 12 to 14 feet high,
which presented a challenge with wiring all the lights. We also
had to be extra careful while working inside a heritage building,
taking great care not to damage any parts of the structure.
_____
Key Challenges
- Complex fixtures and lighting throughout
building
- Installing electrical systems through very
high ceilings
- Working to ensure the building was not damaged
in any way
