Athabasca
Basin Health Facility
Location: On reserve, near Stony Rapids, northern Saskatchewan
Electrical Budget: $1.3 million
_____
About the Project
Operated by the Athabasca Health Authority, this facility is a
full service acute and long-term care hospital and community health
centre. It serves native and non-native residents in northern
Saskatchewan. The facility provides both modern and traditional
native health care practices, and it is the first time a provincial
government has agreed to build a hospital on reserve.
_____
Humboldt Electric's Work
As we do on most of our projects, we provided top to bottom electrical
work for the health facility, from the basics of getting power
to the site to finishing off all the plugs and lights. We also
installed more advanced features on this project, including call
systems, security and fire alarms, and a back up generator system.
The geography of this project presented a challenge for us. Materials
had to be flown or barged in during the summer, while in the winter
season we trucked materials in over frozen lakes.
_____
Key Challenges
- Ensuring the quality of critical systems
- Transporting materials to a remote location
- Working alongside multiple trades on a complex
project
