Saskatoon
International Airport
Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Electrical Budget: $1.5 million
_____
About the Project
The Saskatoon International Airport serves the city of Saskatoon
and is the largest airport in Saskatchewan. The newly renovated
facility is designed to handle 1.4 million passengers annually
and is 33,000 square feet larger than the old terminal. The airport
now handles approximately 200 scheduled passenger flights per
week.
_____
Humboldt Electric's Work
We handled all the electrical work on the renovation and the addition
to the airport facility. This included advanced security systems,
backup power systems, outside lighting of the tarmac, and all
the new electrical systems. The difficulty in this job came from
having to do the entire renovation while maintaining the current
electrical systems. The airport had to keep running while we worked.
A very high level of planning and coordination was needed to accomplish
this project.
_____
Key Challenges
- Maintaining all electrical systems while
renovating
- Extensive planning and coordination to meet
timelines
- Ensuring proper installation of advanced
systems
